Cooking with Essential Oils - Cilantro

Is there anything better than fresh guacamole? YES! There is now - harnessing the pure and potent flavor of doTERRA cilantro essential oil in your plant-based recipes. WHAT?!? Essential oils in my food? ...YES! Here's what you need to know.


Essential oils are the life blood of plants and their plant parts - like roots, fruits, seeds, and stems. We consume them every time we eat a plant. The concentrated, distilled essential oil is so much more potent than the flavor found in these whole forms of plants. So proceed with caution! A little goes a long way. In fact, one drop of peppermint essential oil has the same effect on our bodies as 28 cups of peppermint tea. WOW!!


High quality essential oils are the only ones safe for internal consumption. Make sure that your essential oils are safe for this use by checking with the manufacturer. About 75% of oils available on the market contain synthetic ingredients, YUCK! For something that is designed to work WITH the body, it's super important that your essential oils are pure. Otherwise, the intended benefit or effect will likely be a fraction of what it could have been. Selecting pure essential oils from the beginning is really your best bet!




Cilantro is one my most frequently used essential oils, and for good reason! Have you ever purchased a bunch of fresh cilantro for one recipe, and then discovered that the very same (and likely nearly still full) bunch a few weeks later, has become a rotten pile of mush? It happens all too often for my clients, and it used to happen to me.


And then I discovered this versatile essential oil.


I love to add it to soups and sauces, marinades and dressings, and even to culinary oils like avocado and olive, or even to salt for seasoning a power bowl!


It's also incredible for heavy metal detox and makes a great boost to a green juice - but a little goes a long way! So if you want to avoid smelling like that fresh guacamole all day, start with a few toothpicks worth until you've built up a taste for the potency of this oil.


Of course, sometimes I still use the fresh stuff, but I primarily use parsley or microgreens as a garnish now, because I can focus on purchasing one of those items each week, knowing with full confidence that it will not end up being thrown away! Or ideally composted ;)


Maybe you HATE cilantro?! I've been there too. And here's why - it's the oil of releasing control....


Those negative controlling emotions we hold, hostilities towards others we may tend to micromanage, and patterns that impair our expression of our True Self. Cilantro essential oil can be a great support for individuals working through these challenges. Try working with it daily, applying it over the throat or solar plexus, or simply inhaling it from the bottle or from your hands. Continue as needed, until the smell becomes less offensive, and more tolerable over time. Until, hopefully, you love it - at which point I'd say it's a safe bet that your control issues have subsided considerably.
